About

Anna M Adams, PsyD.

I believe in a compassionate, empathic, respectful, and empowering approach to treatment. Each and every person I work with has strengths that I like to build on to help them overcome the struggles in their life. Using my Adlerian training and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions, I use a collaborative approach with my client to develop an individualized treatment plan by assessing the concerns from various perspectives.

I focus on understanding the client’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in multiple situations. Having a holistic understanding of the presenting problem(s) helps my clients gain perspectives into their lives from multiple angles and allows for greater change and self-improvement. In addition to CBT, I often rely on various forms of relaxation, mindfulness, and meditation to help my clients reach inner peace and emotional wellness.  My goal is to provide you with the tools to find your happiness and place of belonging.

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from DePaul University.  From there I enrolled in a doctoral program at the Adler School of Professional Psychology (Adler University), where I graduated with a degree in Clinical Psychology.  As part of my academic experience, my clinical training was completed at Robert W. Depke Juvenile Complex Center in Lake County, IL and at the University of Chicago.  I completed an APA accredited internship at the Utah State Hospital in Provo, UT where I worked with children and adults diagnosed with chronic mental illness who resided in the psychiatric hospital.  My post-doctoral fellowship was completed in a private practice in Naperville, IL.

As a young girl, my family and I immigrated to the United States from the Former Soviet Union.  Observing the experiences of adjustment my family members went through, sparked my interest in psychology.  My grandparents played an integral role in my life and were influential in my doctoral research project.   My dissertation was focused on socio-emotional well-being of older adults who immigrated from the Former Soviet Union.  I am fluent in Russian and provide services in Russian whenever necessary.
